Winter 2019

1930’s Shanghai, known at the time as Paris of the East, is the main theme this season and is reflected in the evocative, heady offering for Winter 2019.

Prints, placed and all over, are constructed from hand painted motifs borrowed from Chinoiserie screens. Phoenix feathers, plumes of smoke, and blossom flowers appear in artfully placed embroideries. Three piece velvet suits adorned with peak lapels give a nod to the masculine style of the era. Volumous bishop sleeves, crisp Victoriana ruffles, velvet neckties and puff sleeves feature in both day and eveningwear.

Structured silhouettes with caped sleeves, intricately embellished bodices and Italian stretch wool plains bring newness for after dark dressing.

A colour palette of forest green, smoke grey, black and midnight blue interspersed with high-octane cherry, violet and cerise evoke the opulent atmosphere of opium dens in Shanghai during the 1930’s.

The look book was shot at Port Eliot, a stately home in one of the most beautiful corners of Cornwall. The house sits within a romantic landscape laid out by Humphrey Repton which stretches down to a secret estuary on the river Tamar. The bohemian, intoxicating interiors are bursting with an eclectic collection of art and furniture. Quintessentially British, decadent and dreamy – Port Eliot was the perfect backdrop for the Winter 2019 collection.

Every Summer, the Port Eliot Literary Festival hosts a variety of artists, musicians, writers comedians, performers and thinkers. Alice Temperley MBE will be speaking at the Festival this year, telling the story behind the brand with her two books, ‘True British’ and ‘English Myths and Legends’.
