Alchemy; equal parts science and magic. Spring 18 celebrates an uplifting, decorative and vibrant collection. From mineralogy and botanical illustrations to love potions and valentine frakturs; the hand crafted prints, fabrics and embroideries depict a marriage of extraordinary elements that appear both in day and eveningwear in a variety of guises.
Daywear silhouettes take inspiration from the 1940’s with open neck shirt dresses, twisted neck detailing and jumpsuits reminiscent of women’s workwear. Mesmerising fil coupe silk with gold floral dots combined with linear lace and scalloped trims bring richness to effortless separates and dresses paired with tonal, oversized mohair V-neck knits to create a luxurious take on contrasting textures.
Bold tortoiseshell; an evolution of the signature animal print, morphs seamlessly with elements inspired by mystical alchemist illustrations; bottles of potion, botanical specimens, swans, gemstones and crystals. The Elixir leather jacket is emblazoned with stitched swans, bleeding hearts and sacred geometry inspired by the abstract works of Hilma af Klint. Cotton drill daywear tailoring is adorned with military braiding interspersed with elements borrowed from Dutch love notes; tulips, teardrops and love hearts. For evening, Italian jacquard tailoring comes in the form of masculine double breasted coats with satin lapels and tapered trousers. The alchemist threads crescendo into eveningwear; printed silk-hammered satin, sheer tulles, organza with charm embellishments and degrade iridescent sequins. Dramatic ruffles in unexpected fabrications and provocative shoulder cut outs offer a new evening silhouette.
Colour is a sumptuous palette of feminine pinks from seashell, cherry blossom, oyster and amaryllis accented by bright fuchsia and snapdragon. Soft cornflower, almond and pale lichen compliment absinthe and pistachio. A synthesis of extraordinary things.
